Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Por el Derecho a Jugar (The right to play)
Scouts in Argentina are promoting peaceful games and reading as a way of developing positive attitudes towards peace building in young people. DescriptionThere are two parts to this project. Firstly, Scouts are producing peaceful toys and delivering them to kindegartens, day-care centres, and other centres where children from poorer backgrounds are cared for.Scouts are also involved in the decisions about where the toys will be distributed after considering the needs of specific communities. The second part of the project involves Scouts of all ages compiling, editing, and distributing a book containing stories, drawings, and pictures about peace. The book will also help in the general education of children by helping them to improve their reading skills. The Scouts are the main contributors, writing the stories, making the drawings, and taking the photographs. The final contributions included in the book will be the results of a contest. All the contributions will be exhibited in public places. It is hoped that through this project the whole of Argentinian society will benefit, especially the young people who have been involved in producing the projects, and the young people who receive the toys and copies of the book. The project will show that Scouts care about peace and that they can make a real contribution towards developing positive attitudes about peace especially amongst young people. |
