It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business.

Working to eradicate leprosy in Mozambique
The Scouts in Mozambique are fighting leprosy and supporting the initiative to eradicate it entirely in their country. In order to achieve this goal, they have developed awareness campaigns, they are training specialised patrols and are helping the people affected. DescriptionThere are about 20'000 people living with leprosy in Mozambique and the Scouts are commited to helping them heal and live in dignity. Their programme is divided into many phases, the first of which is the training of activists. A leprosy manual for Scouts is then being created, so that all necessary information is available, and posters are being printed to raise the awareness of the population. The core of the programme is the creation of specialised Scout patrols which can assist people suffering from leprosy to get to health centres. They conduct surveys in the field and provide medication. They will also inform the population of the symptoms, so that newly infected people can be treated quickly. The information campaign will also use the radio as a means to reach more people and exchange programmes will be set up, so that best practices can be shared with countries with similar problems. |
