Caravane de la Paix

Les Eclaireuses et Eclaireurs de France

France

Scouts in France are are leading an adventure for peace and human rights through Europe and Africa to make both Scouts and their communities aware of the issues of North-South relations, and of peace education. During the summer of 2007, two peace convoys, one leaving from France, and the other crossing West Africa, will meet up in Dakar and hold an international conference on Peace Education. During their journey, they will organise shows, games, and exhibitions to make people aware of development issues and to promote peace education through Scouting.

Description

The Scouts want to break down barriers through communication, promote peace, highlight the role of Scouting in socio-professional insertion, create new partnerships and enhance the awareness of North-South realities. This initiative is being led by the Eclaireuses et Eclaireurs de France, in partnership with Scouts from 'COFRASL' (The French-speaking Cooperation of Secular Scouting Associations).

200 Scouts from the 'north' will leave Bécours, the national EEDF Scout Centre on Scouting's Sunrise, 1 August 2007 at 08:00. They will travel by car through France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania to Dakar, Senegal.

200 Scouts from the 'south' will leave Cotonou (Benin), and travel through Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and Senegal.

Senegalese Scouts are organising the Francophone Forum for Peace in Dakar, and this conference will be an opportunity to debate, take part in workshops on peace education, present projects, exchange good practices, develop intercultural skills and raise awareness of global issues.
