The Rebirth of the Phoenix

Fédération du Scoutisme Libanais

Lebanon

Scouts in Lebanon are coordinating the 'Rebirth of the Phoenix' project, bringing together Rover Scouts and leaders from around the world to assist in the rebuilding of Southern Lebanon after the conflict, distributing relief to displaced citizens, developing environmental and health campaigns, and educational programs for families and children.

Description

The Scouts in Lebanon are mobilising on a massive scale to meet the challenges ahead. There is a great deal of work to be done, but they will be supported by Scouts worldwide who wish to help to rebuild the country and promote peace in the region.

There will be two stages to the project. The first, running up to July 2007, will concentrate on the collection of funds and then the purchase and distribution of medical supplies, disinfectants and recreational kits for children.

The second stage will take place from July to August 2007, when Scouts will take part in special community service camps in Southern Lebanon. During these camps, they will:

- Help to reconstruct homes and schools
- Provide animation for young people in camps for children or in daily activities
- Develop special programmes for handicapped or injured children/adults
- Develop special programs for persons who lost one or more member from their families
- Run awareness campaigns on the subjects of: Mines and Explosives and Health and Hygiene
- Clean the coastal areas/beaches
- Support medical caravans (in partnership with the Red Cross and Ministry of Health)
- Administer vaccinations
- Support medical attention for those who are unable to move from their homes
- Redevelop agriculture including the harvesting of fruits and assisting people on their land
- Provide support to local municipalities
- Distribute humanitarian support and food supplies
- Clear the wreckage left after the bombings

Rover Scouts and leaders worldwide can get involved and support this effort, click here to their website for more information.
