Scouts in Korea are working to build peace, friendship and harmony both in the Republic of Korea and with North Korea. They are running four key projects: Peace Trekking around the demilitarised zone, tree-planting, the delivery of peace messages and managing conflict without violence in schools.

Description

The Scouts are organising an international trek around the demilitarised zone, which divides the Korean peninsula into North and South and is the visible legacy of the Korean war. They wish to highlight peace, friendship and goodwill towards their neighbours. The second project is called 'Green Land Makers'. Scouts are planting seedlings that will grow to become a green forest of "peace trees".

Their third project, called 'Umbrella Sharers' is a Scout initiative to deliver a message of peace from the far south to the far north of Korea. Finally, the Korean Scouts have set up a 'School Keepers' project which aims to combat violence and discrimination in schools and promote a culture of peace among young people.
