Scouts et Guides de France

France

Scouts from the region of Aragon in Spain are working with French Scouts from Midi-Pyrénées on issues related to water and sustainable development. They will take part in over 35 local projects in the two areas from 30 July - 6 August 2007, and will celebrate Scouting's Sunrise together on 1 August 2007. The 2000 Scouts will then come together at a trans-pyrenean Jamboree 'AquaJam' from 6-10 August to participate in workshops and forums on water and sustainable development and intercultural exchange.

Description

Through their projects, the young people will present principles of sustainable development to their local communities and work to reverse the loss of environmental resources. Around 55 Scouts will take part in each project in the first phase. They are working together in advance of the project through forums, and are planning activities. They plan to celebrate Scouting's Sunrise on 1 August 2007 in their international community service teams.

Following the completion of the projects, 2000 young people will move to Villanua, Spain, near the French border, to take part in 'AquaJam', a Jamboree on the theme of 'Water and Sustainable Development'.

This joint project, between the Aragonese Scouts (MSC) and the Midi-Pyrénées Scouts (SGF) is the latest result of their partnership which began in 2001. For more information on the AquaJam project please see their website: http://www.jamboree-aquajam2007.org
