A Good Turn a Day – Kindness all Year Round

The Singapore Scout Association

Singapore

10,000 Scouts in Singapore are rising to the challenge of 'doing a good turn every day'. They recognise that small acts of goodwill can contribute to building peace and that no gesture is too small.

Description

Each of the 10,000 Scouts in Singapore has been challenged to do a good turn daily and to become an agent of change in society. As a reminder of this challenge the Scouts have been given red silicon wristbands, embossed with the name of the project: 'A Good Turn a Day – Kindness all Year Round'.

Singapore is a small island with a population of around 4.2 million inhabitants. The socio-economic indicators are high, but there is a feeling that the society is becoming more competitive and self-serving. This Scout project aims to change attitudes in society, and it is hoped that all members of the community will benefit from these good turns.

If 10,000 Scouts do a good turn to help one person each day of the year (365 days), this amounts to just over 3:5 million good turns.

The Scouts hope that doing a good turn will become contagious and other members of the community follow the example of Scouting and share acts of kindness.
