Social Development and Inclusion DescriptionEach of the 10,000 Scouts in Singapore has been challenged to do a good turn daily and to become an agent of change in society. As a reminder of this challenge the Scouts have been given red silicon wristbands, embossed with the name of the project: 'A Good Turn a Day – Kindness all Year Round'. Singapore is a small island with a population of around 4.2 million inhabitants. The socio-economic indicators are high, but there is a feeling that the society is becoming more competitive and self-serving. This Scout project aims to change attitudes in society, and it is hoped that all members of the community will benefit from these good turns. If 10,000 Scouts do a good turn to help one person each day of the year (365 days), this amounts to just over 3:5 million good turns. The Scouts hope that doing a good turn will become contagious and other members of the community follow the example of Scouting and share acts of kindness. |
